Our story
Pearls Place opened to the public in May, 2015 as an initiative of Reaching Out Foundation Ltd.
For the first six months we did not have a 'permanent' home, and occupied various venues in Merimbula and Pambula. Then, in May 2016, we were able to secure a lease with the Pambula Masonic Centre for the use of their refurbished commercial-scale kitchen. With funds received from Bega Valley Shire Club Grants and the Mumbulla Foundation we purchased several items of equipment for the kitchen and dining room. Having the use of this kitchen has improved our capacity to cook larger volumes of food and also, to store perishable and non perishable pantry items that we make available to our guests. As well as offering a two course lunch for guests, we can also provide some additional meals to take home along with any perishable food (fresh fruit, vegetables, bread and eggs) that is surplus to our requirements for that week. |
Why Pearls Place and not Pearl's or Pearl?
Pearls and people have some things in common.
Both begin their development as tiny specs of matter.
Both grow inside a protective and nourishing cocoon.
Like people, pearls come in many shapes, colours and sizes.
Like pearls, people can weather storms, take some harsh treatment and retain their strength and quality.
Many pearls grow into valuable and precious treasures.
Most people grow up to become valuable members of their community and are treasured by family and friends.
That’s why it’s Pearls Place. We have a few things in common with pearls.
